Spirulina
Continue with health posts for super foods . I gathered various information sources for the wonderful algae spirulina to construct a more objective view of actual benefits. You will see below that in fact the magic properties of spirulina are not fully proven and validated through research and testing. Rather, for now just assume that it has a beneficial effect on the human body, but attempts are strictly real or laboratory mice. Nobody has done extensive research and testing whether algae was able to help people.

Spirulina is a kind of simple, uni blue-green (contains both chlorophyll and phycocyanin) algae that grow in alkaline freshwater. Spirulina called "super food" or "food of the future" because of its amazing ability to synthesize high-quality concentrated food more efficiently than any other algae.
The most remarkable fact is the protein content of spirulina - 65 to 71% pure protein with all amino acids in perfect balance. For comparison - the protein content of beef is 22%. Besides being extremely rich in protein, it contains different vitamins, minerals and carotenoids (a type of antioxidants that protect cells from damage), including vitamin B complex, beta-carotene, vitamin E, magnesium, zinc, copper, iron , selenium and essential fatty acids and enzymes.
Another valuable feature of spirulina is that it is one of the few plant sources of vitamin B 12, usually people get through the meat. Only one teaspoon of algae provides the body with 250% of recommended daily vitamin. In 12 or 20 times greater amount than that contained in one serving of liver.

All these facts sound fantastic, but unfortunately still their beneficial effects on human health has not been scientifically proven through research. All tests are now performed only on animals and in test tubes.
- Actual Animal spirulina enhances the immune system by increasing the production of antibodies protects against various types of allergies by blocking the release of histamines, accelerates growth of beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus acidophilus and other probiotics.
- Tests in a test tube have shown that spirulina effectively fight infections and is effective against herpes, influenza and HIV, but whether this actually works in humans has not yet been tested.
- In the placebo study in cancer of the mouth involved two groups of people, chewing tobacco. The group took spirulina decreased significantly pre-cancerous lesion called levkoplakiya, compared with the group that has taken the placebo. But that was not enough evidence for anti-cancer properties of spirulina.
- Preliminary evidence suggests that spirulina protects the liver from cirrhosis in patients with chronic hepatitis. Still, however, medicine needs further research to confirm.

How many things are unknown to the bottom of the ocean :)
Very interesting! Just to understand a little about the terminology, the algae are not plants, especially blue-green algae are cyanobacteria and although not photosynthesize plants. There is not a plant or animal that can produce B12.
Well, not plant spirulina, you're right. As for the vitamin. B 12, I did :) But I really study time with the B 12 in spirulina is controversial, some say it is, others - deny. Just because these so-called speculation about. great food, I wanted to write a little more objective facts actually show us that magical properties are not always justified, but rather suggested.
